Sometimes, a home is for sale and it is a secret. For one reason or another, an agent keeps this as a “pocket” and it does not go in the Multiple Listing Service for the world to see. It can be a pocket listing for a few weeks before it is actually listed; maybe the seller is fixing up the property or photos and marketing is not ready. Sometimes the seller may want it a secret for personal reasons – they may be re-financing the house and do not want the bank to know, they may be testing a high price to see what response they get or they may be a celebrity and not want the info on the internet. I do not like “pocket” listings. It is my job to get the seller the best offer and best price and it is a little hard to do when it is a secret. Having great relationships with other agents helps me get the inside scoop.
