Favorite Summer Activities August 1-14

Looking for something fun to do this month? Here are some of my favorite summer events in LA for the first 2 weeks of August!

Farmer’s Markets
There are so many great farmer’s markets in LA- perhaps you saw my earlier post about the Larchmont Village Farmers Market? It is one of the best farmer’s markets in Los Angeles with upwards of 50 venders selling a wide variety of products. Or you can explore the surrounding area, and stop by one of Larchmont Village’s many quaint eateries nestled among the charming tree-lined streets. You may even enjoy some free music by a local artist. The Larchmont Village Farmer’s Market operates Sundays from 10a.m.- 2p.m. Free underground parking is available across the street at the Rite Aid. Meters start at 11am. Or just walk like me! Bring the whole family; the farmer’s market is wheelchair accessible. No pets; service pets only. And remember- many of the vendors are cash only! See you there!

When: Sundays from 10a.m.- 2p.m. (Sometimes they start earlier – shhhh!)
Where: 209 N Larchmont Boulevard. Los Angeles, CA 90004
(north of 1st Street, just south of Beverly Blvd)
My favorite/must have vendor is GOURMET SOUP.

Twilight Concert Series at the Santa Monica Pier

Grab a blanket, a cooler, and 15-20 or your closest friends and head on over to the Santa Monica Pier for annual summer Twilight Concert Series! The popular concerts take place every Thursday through Sept. 8th, and best of all- they’re completely FREE! The music starts at 7pm, but you may want to get there early as the pier can get crowded… VERY crowded. In fact, most of the crowds watch from below the pier where the surrounding sands turn into one huge beach party!

Here is the August lineup:
Aug 4: Natalia Lafourcade with Monsieur Periné
Aug 11: RÜFÜS DU SOL with Marc Baker
Aug 18: Mavis Staples with The Suffers
Aug 25: Save Ferris with Cibo Matto

When: every Thursday at 7pm through Sept. 8
Where: Santa Monica Pier
Parking: Limited (paid) parking on the pier, however it’s a great opportunity to try out the newly completed Expo Line stop just a stone’s throw from the pier!

Odd Nights in Silverlake
The Odd Market brings its monthly nighttime flea market to Silverlake this Saturday, August 6th starting at 5:00pm. The event will be held both indoors and outdoors at the SIJCC property on the corner of Sunset and Bates. Come listen to live music as you browse the offerings of over 30 local venders inside the 4000 sq foot space called ‘The Box.’ Outside, you will find another 30 vender booths, food trucks, and a kids area with DIY arts and crafts! The Odd Market comes to Silverlake on the 1st Saturday of each month, and admission is FREE! (Pet’s are welcome in the outdoor area.)

When: Aug 6th, 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Where: 1110 Bates Ave, 1110 Bates Avenue, Los Angeles

DTLA Art Walk Night Market

In case youmissed my previous post about the DTLA Art Walk, the Art Walk is back again featuring over 40 different art galleries and museums spread throughout downtown Los Angeles‘ various historic districts. This is more than just a simple walking tour- there’s food, music, and various festivities and programs to entertain the approximately 10,000 Art Walk patrons. Come immerse yourself in a world of free expression and experience true LA culture at its finest while supporting local artists.

When: Thursday, August 11th from noon-10pm, but the party really kicks off around 6pm with the opening of the Art Walk Lounge located at 634 S. Spring St. at the MALDEF building.
Where: Mainly in the Historic Core between 4th and 9th and Spring and Main Streets. However, the galleries and restaurants spread beyond to the Fashion District, South Park and the Financial District.
