Here are some of the best places to indulge your sweet tooth near Larchmont Village! (Also see my previous post on my favorite places to find wine near Larchmont Village, and while you’re at it, check out my favorite coffee shop in LA!) And don’t forget to share your favorite dessert spots in the comments below!
Salt & Straw
Salt & Straw is the creation of cousins Kim and Tyler Malek. Their distinguishing trademark (aside from their inventive flavors like Black Olive Brittle & Goat Cheese or their vegan Coconut Marionberry & Pecan Shortbread) is the “farm-to-cone” philosophy- all of their ice cream is handmade in small batches using all natural dairy with Local, Organic, & Sustainable ingredients from California as well as imported flavors from small, hand-picked farms around the world. The Larchmont location is their first location in Los Angeles.

Erin McKenna’s Bakery (formerly BabycakesNYC)
Erin McKenna’s Bakery caters to those that they consider to be the “underserved” population of sweets lovers- “people with gluten, dairy, egg, and soy sensitivities, the health-minded, and, most importantly, allergic kids who are often unable to indulge.” One of the first gluten free bakeries to enter the L.A. scene, all of their products are vegan, kosher, and free of refined sugar (they use agave nectar, and sometimes vegan sugar instead) and GMOs.

The Little Sweet Place at Larchmont Farmers Market
The Little Sweet Place (TLSP) originally started as a hobby, but has grown into something so much more. From humble beginnings in a small kitchen to several farmers markets a week, TLSP’s mission is still simple: happiness one macaroon at a time. They specialize in coconut macaroons and vegan & gluten free brownies. Founder, Joei Miu, is a self taught baker that loves to taste desserts and sweets everywhere she goes. She got her start by creating irresistible cheesecakes, panna cottas, mousses, tiramisu and cookies in her grandma’s home for family and friends. You can catch her tasty confections Sundays from 10am-2pm at the weekly Larchmont Village Farmer’s Market!

Milk Jar Cookies
Milk Jar Cookies began as the dream of long-time cookie baker, Courtney Cowan, who left her job as a TV Post Producer to pursue her dream of opening a cookie shop. With the support of her husband and designer Adam Tiller, she left the entertainment industry behind to open her first brick and mortar Milk Jar Cookies shop in the spring of 2013. Their cookies are homemade daily & baked in small batches from morning til night, so you can be assured something will always be fresh out of the oven when you visit. They even deliver cookies right to your doorstep! We stop by here at least once a week!

Sweet Lady Jane
After Jane Lockhart began selling her delicious (literally homemade) desserts to Los Angeles restaurants, she quickly gained a reputation for outstanding quality and taste, and on May 5, 1988 the Sweet Lady Jane bakery officially opened its doors! Sweet Lady Jane has been featured in various media, including: Oprah’s Favorite Things 2014, Newsweek, In-Style, In-Style Weddings, Country Home, Entertainment Weekly, Access Hollywood, eXtra, Los Angeles Magazine, Bon Appetit, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, People, as well as several Food Network shows including “The Best Of”, “Top 5”, “The Secret Life of Pies”, and “Extreme Cuisine.” At this point, I’ll let the accolades speak for themselves: “#1 in their ‘Little Black Book'”- W Magazine “The ‘West Coast Cake Diva.'”- Town and Country “One of the nine best [lunches] in town.”- Los Angeles’s KCAL-9 Zagat Guide calls Jane’s cakes “works of art,” her pastries “heavenly,” her sandwiches “yummy,” and says that Sweet Lady Jane is “the best place in town for dessert.”

The Pie Hole
Okay, so this one is a little deeper into Hollywood, but if you are willing to go an extra mile or two north of Larchmont Village, you can experience some of the best pies Los Angeles has to offer! The Pie Hole, a family-run organization, uses classic recipes passed down in the family for five generations along with more modern inventions like their Earl Grey Tea Pie. The motto here is “Pie Is Love,” and I couldn’t agree more. As they say, it’s more than just pie at this all American pie shop. They’re serving up “Happiness, One Slice At A Time”. Try the Mexican Choclate Pie!

Jeni Britton Bauer founded Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in 2002. Although, Jeni has been making ice creams professionally for two decades. You could say that she sparked the artisan ice cream movement more than a decade before it would become a top food trend. Jeni is a James Beard Award-winning author of two cookbooks and has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the most creative people in business. Free of synthetic flavoring, dyes, or off-the-shelf mixes, her ice creams have a uniquely smooth texture and buttercream body, with bright flavor and clean finish.
