The Hollywood Hills, is an unofficial designation of part of the City of Los Angeles. The neighborhood, often referred to as simply, “The Hills”–thanks, in part, to a popular reality TV show bearing the same name–is part of the eastern section of the low Santa Monica Mountains, which extends from Los Feliz and Hollywood, and into the south side of the Valley.
Traditionally, the designation “Hollywood Hills” comprised the hill neighborhoods north of Hollywood proper and excluding the more westerly neighborhoods. However, in recent years, the meaning has expanded to include the areas north of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, even extending westward to Benedict and Coldwater Canyons.
The Hollywood Hills has been mentioned in various movies & television shows including Mulholland Drive & the 2005 movie Cursed. The area is home to many celebrities.
It is fun to take a drive and get lost up in the hills and experience all the different architecture! The streets can be narrow and a little scary, but a day-trip along Mulholland Dr. will carry you through the Santa Monica Mountains all the way to Malibu. You may also want to include a few hours for exploring Griffith Park at any time of the year. The park contains numerous hiking and horse-back riding trails, the Griffith Observatory, the LA Zoo, camps, playgrounds, museums, picnic areas, tennis courts, and more… Great boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants on Franklin Blvd.
